Glass Made By The Sun

MADE BY THE SUN
Crafting Sustainable Glass Art with Renewable Energy
At Backhaus Brown, we are dedicated to creating unique glass art and exceptional glass lighting that merges craftsmanship with sustainability. Glassmaking has long relied on gas-powered furnaces and kilns, consuming vast amounts of energy and contributing to carbon emissions. Determined to reduce our environmental impact, we made a bold decision to transition entirely from gas to electric-powered equipment.

This shift wasn’t just about upgrading technology; it was about rethinking the way we create. Our new electric kilns and furnaces are now powered by two 50 kW solar panel systems, harnessing the sun`s energy to fuel our work. We are also supplied with green wind power from the grid. This change has significantly reduced our CO2‚‚ footprint, allowing us to continue producing distinctive, handcrafted glass art with a cleaner conscience.

Sustainability is woven into every part of our process. Wherever possible, we recycle and remelt our own waste glass, transforming discarded materials into exciting new pieces. This approach not only reduces waste but also inspires innovative designs, each creation carrying a story of renewal and reinvention.
At Backhaus Brown, we believe that glass art can be both beautiful and responsible. By embracing renewable energy and circular material practices, we are shaping a future where artistic expression and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
